Ulster County Area Transit’s Z Route connects several of the Catskills’ most useful stops, including Kingston, Woodstock, Phoenicia, Pine Hill and Belleayre Mountain. The route currently operates Monday through Saturday, making it a useful option for guests who want to explore nearby towns and attractions without driving everywhere.
Where Can the Z Route Take You?
Woodstock
Spend a few hours exploring Woodstock’s galleries, independent shops, restaurants and creative atmosphere before hopping back on the route.
Phoenicia
Phoenicia is one of the easiest stops to pair with an Abeni stay. Wander through the small mountain town, grab something to eat, explore local shops or use it as a starting point for other Catskills adventures.
Pine Hill
Continue deeper into the mountains to Pine Hill, a quiet Catskills village that makes a lovely stop for visitors who prefer a slower pace and small-town feel.
Belleayre Mountain
The Z Route also serves Belleayre Mountain, giving guests another way to reach one of the region’s major outdoor destinations. Depending on the season, Belleayre offers hiking, scenic gondola rides, fall activities and winter skiing. Some Belleayre stops on the Z Route operate by request, so guests should always check the current timetable before travelling.
Kingston
At the other end of the route is Kingston, where guests can explore shops, restaurants, historic neighborhoods and connect to other transportation services.
Even Better — UCAT Is Fare-Free
One of the nicest things about exploring this way is that UCAT currently provides fare-free service to all riders. There is also a UCAT smartphone app that allows passengers to find stops, receive service alerts and track buses in real time.
A Different Way to Experience the Catskills
Driving gives you freedom, but it doesn’t have to be the only way to experience the area. With a little planning, the Z Route can turn a day into an easy Catskills journey — breakfast in Phoenicia, an afternoon in Woodstock, a mountain stop at Belleayre, or simply a chance to explore without worrying about who has to drive home.
